Ominous Writings was a project that had started from Art Criticism class. I had used Instagram to write short reviews based on artwork I had seen. These reviews took on short sentences, much like a newspaper publication. It had originally been more narrative focussed, but gradually become more related to artworks I had seen in exhibitions. The dark suspense that I had started with is still an aspect in my commentaries of artwork. It was a challenge learning to write with such few words about an artwork, yet looking back, it is a very crucial skill to have. For a image-focussed site, writing briefly is particularly important as Instagram is often a site that one scrolls through quickly. This is why the most fundamental elements of an artwork must be stated, rather than elaborating too much.
In some of these posts, I have often questioned certain features of a work for the audience to work out. But with this blog, it would be interesting to use the questions I have given to the audience and expand on these in the blog for a more detailed discussion. I also think that with a blog, there is more freedom to commentate on exhibitions, rather than just individual works.
