Missing Art Pieces is an ongoing collaborative project that I had also started from my studies. Like Ominous Writings, this project had taken place on Instagram. The interface on Instagram was ideal for capturing different styles of art through a thumbnail gallery, and like an exhibition, each work had a summary (much like wall text). The reason I had chosen the name Missing Art Pieces, was due to the fact that this project questioned on what was missing from the art world. Participants are encouraged to write a few sentences on what they believe the art world lacked or needed more of and provided an image of their choosing.
Towards the end of the semester, I had summarised my findings in an essay of recurring themes within the project (you can view this in the PDF at the bottom of the post). At the time of writing, most participants seemed to prefer more art that reflected on the everyday or the real. Yet even though people had preferred an image that did not romanticise life, works focussed more on aesthetic quality or technique over concept (a very traditionalist approach).
As this project is still continuing, I hope to gather my findings after a few years’ time and see whether people’s desire for a certain type of art has changed or diminished. Keep watching this space to find out!
